HVAC Local Services Ads in 2026: costs, setup and the Google Ads migration

What HVAC companies actually pay per LSA lead, why it costs more than other trades, and how to set up Local Services Ads after Google moved them into Google Ads.

Google Local Services Ads (LSAs) for HVAC companies put you at the very top of Google with a verification badge, and you pay per lead instead of per click. In 2026, HVAC LSA leads typically cost more than leads in trades like landscaping. Published 2026 datasets range from about $51 to $72 per lead on average. HVAC was also in the first wave of Google’s move of LSAs into Google Ads, starting in August 2026, which changed how bidding, budgets and business details work.

Below is what HVAC LSA leads cost and why, how the 2026 migration changed setup, and the configuration we use for HVAC companies.

What HVAC Local Services Ads cost in 2026

LSA pricing depends on your market, job types and competition, so averages only go so far. Here’s what two 2026 datasets report:

SourceHVAC average cost per leadNotes
SearchLight Digital (Feb 2026, 888 contractors), via Isoline Growth$51About 44% of HVAC leads booked
99 Calls LSA cost estimator (Oct 2026)$72.15 (median $64.94)Typical range $44.71–$123.04; small sample of client campaigns

Both are vendor datasets with different samples, so treat them as ranges, not targets. Your real number depends on your city and how you set up job types.

Why HVAC LSA leads cost more than many trades

For comparison, a landscaping LSA account we manage produced 19 leads at $44.42 per lead ($843.91 in spend). In our experience, HVAC LSA leads come in somewhat higher than landscaping, for a few reasons:

  • Urgency. A homeowner with no heat in January calls immediately, and many HVAC companies compete for that call.
  • High ticket values. System replacements and heat pump installs are worth a lot, so competitors bid more.
  • Seasonal spikes. Demand and competition jump during cold snaps and heat waves.
  • More competitors use LSAs in HVAC than in many other trades.

Higher lead cost doesn’t mean a worse investment. With HVAC tickets, one replacement job can pay for many leads. Judge LSAs on cost per booked job and revenue, not lead price alone.

What changed when HVAC LSAs moved into Google Ads

Google is migrating Local Services Ads into Google Ads as a Performance Max campaign type with pay-per-lead goals. HVAC was in the first group, starting in August 2026. Key changes:

  • You manage LSAs inside Google Ads, not the old LSA dashboard. Leads appear under Goals → Conversions → Leads.
  • Manual max-per-lead bidding is gone. Bidding uses a campaign-level target cost per lead.
  • Weekly budgets became daily averages (weekly budget ÷ 7), with monthly spend capped.
  • Business name, address and hours sync from your Google Business Profile. Big changes there can trigger a review that may pause ads for a day or two.
  • BBB callouts are no longer supported. Google recommends at least six other structured callouts, and you can upload up to 100 photos.
  • Past performance reports didn’t carry over, though lead history did.

What stayed the same: you still pay only for valid leads, ads still show only on Google Search and Maps, there are still no keywords, and verification carried over.

How HVAC LSAs rank

Google says LSA ranking depends on your bid, how likely your ad is to produce a lead (including how responsive you are), and your profile quality, which includes rating, review count, response time, photos and completed verification. For HVAC, two levers matter most:

Our HVAC LSA setup

1. Choose job types deliberately

LSAs let you choose which HVAC job types you want leads for. Turning on everything brings in every kind of call, including small jobs you may not want at peak season. Start with the jobs you most want (repairs, replacements, heat pump installs, maintenance) and turn off the rest.

2. Tighten the service area

Every ZIP code you add is somewhere you may pay for a lead. Start with the areas your trucks reach quickly and your best customers live, then expand.

3. Set a realistic target cost per lead

With manual bidding gone, the target cost per lead is your main control. Set it from your numbers: average ticket, close rate and margin. Allow about two weeks after changes for performance to settle.

4. Build the profile to win the click

Add at least six structured callouts, real photos of your team and trucks, and keep your Google Business Profile hours and details accurate, since they now sync to your LSA campaign.

5. Run LSAs with search ads, not instead of them

LSAs give pay-per-lead placement at the top of the page, but no landing pages, keywords or offers. Search ads fill that gap: we build separate ad groups and landing pages for AC repair, furnace repair, heat pump installation and maintenance agreements. See HVAC Google Ads and our comparison of HVAC Google Ads vs LSA.

6. Plan for seasons

Raise budgets ahead of heating and cooling peaks, and watch your target cost per lead during cold snaps and heat waves, when competition jumps. See our HVAC seasonal campaigns page.

7. Review leads and let credits work

Google now reviews charged leads automatically for up to 30 days and credits invalid ones. Check your Leads page weekly, rate leads, and narrow job types or areas if certain lead types keep coming in.

HVAC LSA migration checklist

  • Confirm your LSA campaign appears in Google Ads and leads are flowing under Goals → Conversions → Leads
  • Check budget, service area, schedule and job types after the move
  • Replace old max-per-lead bids with a target cost per lead
  • Add at least six structured callouts and upload fresh photos
  • Make sure Google Business Profile name, address and hours are correct
  • Turn on lead notifications for at least one active user
  • Save screenshots of old performance reports, since they didn’t carry over

Frequently asked questions

How much do HVAC Local Services Ads cost per lead?

2026 datasets report averages from about $51 to $72 per lead, with wide ranges by market. HVAC typically runs higher than trades like landscaping.

Are HVAC LSAs worth it?

For most HVAC companies, yes, because one replacement job can cover many leads. They work best when you answer calls fast, keep reviews coming in, and pair them with search ads.

Can I still set a maximum price per lead?

Not after the migration. Manual max-per-lead bidding was removed. You now set a target cost per lead at the campaign level.

Do HVAC LSAs replace Google Ads?

No. LSAs and search ads work best together, covering different placements and giving you different controls.
