Why isn’t my business showing up on Google?

A checklist for the most common reasons a local business is invisible on Google — and what to do about each.

If you’re missing from Google Maps

  • Your profile isn’t verified or has been suspended. Check its status in your Google Business Profile account.
  • Your category is wrong or too broad. Your primary category should match the service people search for most.
  • Distance. Map results lean heavily toward businesses close to the searcher. If you’re a service-area business, you’ll show more readily near your location.
  • Few or no reviews. Competitors with more recent reviews tend to outrank you.
  • Incomplete profile. Missing services, hours, photos or website link.

If you’re missing from organic results

  • Your site isn’t indexed. Search site:yourdomain.com. If nothing appears, check Google Search Console.
  • No page matches the search. If you don’t have a page about a service, it’s hard to rank for it.
  • Technical problems. Slow pages, accidental “noindex” tags, content loaded in ways Google struggles with.
  • Thin or duplicate pages. Google may index only some of a site full of near-identical pages.
  • Strong competition. Sometimes it’s simply a crowded market and needs time.
