How to choose a plumbing marketing agency: what to look for in 2026

Why plumbing marketing should be built service by service, the questions that separate good agencies from expensive ones, and how Altura runs plumbing accounts.

Plumber working on pipes in a home

To choose a plumbing marketing agency, look for one that builds your marketing service by service: emergency repairs, drain cleaning, water heaters and sewer work each with their own campaign, landing page and offer. It should track calls back to booked jobs and let you own your ad accounts and website. Generic “plumbing marketing packages” that send every click to your home page are the most common reason plumbers say marketing didn’t work. Altura Marketing Group is a home-service-only agency that builds plumbing accounts this way, with a dedicated ad group, landing page and offer for every service.

Below is what a good plumbing marketing company should actually do, the questions to ask, and the red flags that cost plumbers money.

Why plumbing marketing has to be built service by service

“Plumber” isn’t one search. Each plumbing service has different urgency, ticket size and customer:

ServiceHow customers searchWhat the landing page needs
Emergency repair / burst pipeUrgent, mobile, call-firstHuge click-to-call button, response time, 24/7 availability if true
Drain cleaning / clogsFast, price-sensitiveUpfront pricing approach, same-day availability, an offer
Water heater repair / replacementUrgent repair or planned replacementTank vs tankless options, brands, financing, warranty
Sewer line repair / replacementHigh ticket, researchedCamera inspection, trenchless options, financing, proof of work
Repiping / leak detectionConsidered, trust-drivenProcess, timeline, photos, reviews

When all of these share one ad and one home page, the person with a flooded basement and the person researching tankless water heaters get the same message, and both are less likely to call.

How we build plumbing accounts

At Altura, every plumbing service gets its own ad group, its own landing page and its own offer. Someone searching “water heater replacement” sees an ad about water heater replacement and lands on a page about water heaters, with an offer and financing details that fit that job. That match improves click-through and conversion rates, and lets us put budget behind the services that produce your best jobs. We walk through the setup in our Google Ads for plumbers video and in how to run Google Ads for plumbers.

What a good plumbing marketing agency should do

Run Google Ads and Local Services Ads together

Plumbers is one of Google’s Local Services Ads categories, and LSAs show above regular ads with pay-per-lead pricing. SearchLight Digital data from February 2026 (888 contractors, via Isoline Growth) put the average plumbing LSA lead at $57, with about 44.5% of leads booked. A good agency runs LSAs for top-of-page placement and search ads for control over services, offers and landing pages. Note that Google moved plumbing LSAs into Google Ads starting in August 2026; ask how the agency handled that.

Block the searches that waste plumbing budgets

Plumbing accounts leak money to DIY searches (“how to unclog a drain”), product searches (water heater prices at big-box stores), job searches (“plumber salary,” “plumbing apprenticeship”) and parts. Ask to see the agency’s starting negative keyword list.

Plan around plumbing’s busy periods

Frozen and burst pipes in cold snaps, water heater failures in winter, and drain and sewer issues during heavy rain all change demand. Budgets should move with it.

Track calls to booked jobs

Most plumbing leads are calls. Reporting should show calls by service, cost per lead and booked jobs, not just clicks.

Help with the phones

Invoca’s 2026 data found 44% of callers to businesses never reach a person. An agency that reviews missed calls with you, and only runs call ads when someone can answer, often adds more jobs than a bigger budget.

Questions to ask a plumbing marketing company

  1. Will each plumbing service have its own ad group, landing page and offer?
  2. How do you split budget between emergency and scheduled work?
  3. What negative keywords do you start with for plumbers?
  4. How did you handle the 2026 Local Services Ads migration?
  5. Will reports show calls and booked jobs by service?
  6. Will the ad accounts, website and domain be in my name?
  7. Who will make changes in my account, and can I talk to them?

Red flags

  • A one-size “plumbing package” with no service-level plan
  • Every ad sending traffic to your home page
  • Shared or rented leads sold to multiple plumbers
  • The agency owns your ad account or website
  • Reports with impressions and clicks but no calls or jobs
  • Guaranteed rankings or lead numbers

Frequently asked questions

How much does a plumbing marketing agency cost?

Fees vary by services and market, and ad spend is separate. Get pricing in writing. Contact Altura for a quote based on your service area.

Should plumbers use Local Services Ads or Google Ads?

Both. LSAs give pay-per-lead placement at the top; Google Ads gives control over services, offers and landing pages.

What should a plumbing company spend on marketing?

Work backward from your average ticket, close rate and capacity. Our guide on what percentage of revenue should go to marketing walks through it.

How long before a plumbing marketing agency gets results?

Google Ads and LSAs can produce calls within days; SEO usually takes several months.
